Zoom is one of the largest distributors of non-prescription eyewear in the United States. This is a remodel of an existing 53,354 s.f. warehouse building for the relocation of their Hollister distribution facility.
This remodel encompasses 40,965 s.f. of high bay rack storage, and a new 12,389 s.f. office space custom designed specifically for their needs. At the request of the owner, we were to reuse the office area under an existing suspended ceiling for open cubicle areas, mail room, utility areas, and for a new break/lunchroom. The area under the skylights of the high ceiling includes a visitor’s reception desk, private offices, and a conference room. By maintaining the high ceiling and utilizing the existing rooftop skylights, as well as cutting three new window openings above the conference room, the central area is flooded with sunlight. That light and openness is shared by the open ceiling design of the private offices and conference room. Designing those spaces with nine-foot high walls succeeds in accommodating conversation privacy.
A coordinated color scheme of accent walls was used to make each private office unique. That splash of color is shared with the central space as viewed through the doors and glass sidelights. This spacious, light filled working environment supports interaction, worker productivity, and continues to be a smashing success with everyday users.
