The company who purchased this apartment building in an upscale Menlo Park neighborhood needed a complete remodel of the building on the inside and the outside, and the building needed to transform into a sophisticated and desirable place to live. A contemporary building to start with, the EBA design team worked with the existing building fabric, using more contemporary colors and details.
The buildings were almost totally hidden by an overgrowth of vegetation which was thinned for light and air to the buildings and most importantly, so the building could be seen from the street. A special emphasis was put on designing a street facing pool area as an attractive element to draw future tenants. The property was re-landscaped with a more contemporary design look. The old lava rock entry walls were plastered over and new stainless steel letters were added for a refreshed contemporary look.
New steel stair and walkway railings were designed to bring them up to code compliant height. The private balconies were given a new façade treatment and a steel tube railing was added to the existing railings to make the code required height and reduce costs.
The interiors of the apartments were refreshed with a new kitchen and new bathrooms. All new
cabinets and granite counter tops were added to a slightly altered kitchen layout that opened the
kitchen to the main living room, making both spaces feel larger. The slight increase in kitchen
size was used to add a dishwasher and more effective bar seating on the living room side.
